Every chance he had

Another day another lesson

Yes he was my dad

And the one-on-one

We sometimes had

While at the porch he said to me

Look at the trees and now observe

Not just the leaves

But the nest along with birds

Another day

Is it the ball

Is it the puck

My brother chose the roll

I said the slide

I wonder if my father

Ever came to know

He later died

A nearby river a drowning boy

If a life you're trying to save

First ensure to live another day

Don't let the effort

Take your life away

There came a time he said to me

Son if today I were

To die I would die happy

As for your siblings

I've done my best

I know you're ready

But I can't truly vouch for the rest

When that dreadful day finally came

I knew I would be on my own my won

Looking back on the day he said

Son I know that you

Can weather any storm

And so I go on knowing

He lives in me

The lessons I once had

The lessons he gave to me
