Snow fell on Passchendaele in nineteen seven-teen
In winter’s chill men lay on land a baren scene
Beneath a tattered coat is a letter held so dear
The night brings souls no sleep for morning all men fear
Back home all children sleep no sounds of war do they hear
It’s Christmas once again and soon to pass a year
In no-man’s land he reads a Christmas card held dear
A letter a wife sent who sealed it with a tear
In Flander’s field they lay two wounded men and foe
In eyes they saw no hate with smiles they said hello
Beneath their tattered coats are letters held so dear
A Christmas card from home and sealed with a tear
In no-man’s land they read a Christmas card held dear
A letter a wife sent who sealed it with a tear
They exchanged faded cards with words they could not read
Yet knew a woman’s love with grins they watched wounds bleed
Beneath their tattered coats are letters held so dear
A Christmas card from home and sealed with a tear
