As I walked up To the clock shop What did I see? Two hands, one face Looked kind of out of place He looked a lot like me I wandered through the front door Just like some curious child Cogs turned, bells chimed All ringing out of time I listened for a while And the keeper knows my name He held his finger to a candle flame And we vanished into the dark And soon I felt the cool grass Of the clockwork fields Brass wheels, steel pins Bells chiming for my sins Imagine how you'd feel Three miles past the spring mill Sat a Cuckoo bird Oak eyes, birch wings But never learned to sing For to be heard And the Cuckoo knows my name She spread her wings Out like an aeroplane And we vanished into the sky All the clocks Are going round and round Listen to the sounds they play I woke up in the clock shop From some haunted sleep Awake, afraid Some creature from the shade Has come to alter me
