R31 studied architecture during college, but he later found his understanding in design more suitable in creating music. Music to him is geometry that is more abstract, pure and expressive than that of the physical world. Through music he creates places that help listeners introspect and understand their own emotions. “I always knew I loved art. I really enjoyed painting when I was a kid, and that was how I got into architecture, however the design school is where I discovered the beauty of composing. When I’m writing, I’m in the musical space with myself for the purpose of introspection. The finished piece is a record of the process of me interviewing myself. I believe that asking yourself brave questions and answering them truthfully brings great understandings.”
