The Tampa, FL native was singing before he was a teen and once he decided to take up songwriting, he knew it was something he wanted to pursue. As a high school freshman, Phoenix Stone won the lead role in a school production of Grease, which led to a recurring role on a television comedy for young adults. In his sophomore year, he was offered a full scholarship to study voice at the University of South Florida, and upon graduation from high school, Phoenix studied classical singing at the university for just a semester. Realizing that the strict discipline of operatic singing wasn't for him, he turned his sights towards the freer expression of popular contemporary singing. Able to read music and play by ear, his talent eventually landed a publishing contract. A relationship with Trans Continental Records (Backstreet Boys, 'N Sync) opened the door to (Phoenix) touring with (Britney Spears) and (Deborah Cox). Universal Records soon signed (Phoenix), and his self-titled debut recording was released in the summer of 2000
