Ever since the summer of 2005, Super Satellite, a four-piece indie rock band from Central New Jersey, has been wooing their audiences with their own brand of post-punk/rock tunes with Brit pop overtones. The band is fronted by Christian Edwards (on lead vocals, rhythm guitar, and also serves as the bands songwriter) and is joined by Tim Foster (lead guitar, mandolin, backing vocals), Brian Hurst (drums, percussion), and Chris Wenzel (bass, backing vocals). Their collective sound is reminiscent of great bands like Oasis and the Kinks, yet distinctly different and bringing something new and positive to the East Coasts musical table and beyond.
Super Satellite has performed innumerable shows since they, just a few years ago, first started writing, playing, and winning fans over one at a time. The band knew they could bowl over each audience for which they played and would receive many happy returns, and then some “ a real grassroots effort to success. They first started pounding the New Jersey and New York club scenes and eventually worked their way above and beyond their local haunts. Super Satellite has such a broad appeal with their feel-good retro sound, that they were able to garner more attention and earn support slots for artists like Will Hoge, the Gin Blossoms, Sponge, Candlebox, Cross Canadian Ragweed, the Crash Motive, Vonda Shepard, Drive Blind, and the Ataris, to name a few. They have even played major music events including Mobfest in Chicago and were the support act to Lifehouse at Summerfest in Milwaukee.
Super Satellite is self-releasing their first album, a ten song E.P., which was mixed, edited, and produced at Stratosphere Sound in New York City by Geoff Sanoff, whose other works include records by the Secret Machines, Nada Surf, the Sounds, Fountains of Wayne, and more recently, Dashboard Confessional and Television. The CD was mastered at Sterling Sound in New York City by Will Quinnell who also mastered releases by Mindless Self Indulgence, Armor for Sleep, the Blue Van, Lupe Fiasco, and remixes by Amy Winehouse and Rihanna. The album features Sleepwalking, the first single, which is an easy-going, catchy, mandolin-laden tune that takes the listener to a cheerful place where there is satisfaction and love in ones life to the point where nothing else can be a true distraction. Come Over is a straight-ahead pop rock tune with 50s style that encourages even jaded New Yorkers to move their feet and sing along. The album overall is a great and uplifting diversion with more focus on what is good in the world than what is wrong with it.
With such dedication to their craft and followers, and with such solid star power, Super Satellite is destined to make a real name for themselves. Expect to hear much more from this stellar outfit that is always giving their adorers a reason to support them and return, show after show.
