A gentle and elegant series of pieces designed for the massage table and meditation chamber, this marks a fine New Age debut from composer Bjorn Arnason. There is a benign simplicity at work in Arnason's ability to fuse the soothing washes of keyboard drone with extended wooden flute notes, forming a bed as expansive as the sea with which he underwrites beautifully simple repeating piano and/or classical guitar passages. "Glide" has a hypnotically soothing form of repetition that recalls some of Bach's gentler work as it slows time to a standstill. Tracks like "Praise" and "Faith" feature hauntingly simple piano parts which gently usher in a cascading sense of relaxation and just a tinge of melancholia for one's old state of suffering. Arnason is in no hurry, but step by sure-footed step he guides listeners up their inner ladders until the sounds unfold in the manner of a continually opening lotus. In its own way, this is perfect music: sure, steady, simple, and laden with quiet grace.
