In the new song "Anger is Free" the lyrics speak of the desire to end it all, and the struggle to do the complete opposite...DeuxMonkey is the new band from Dan Spitz that launches a sound that represents that struggle, that determination and fight within human flesh to succeed and overcome.
The struggles of raising Identical Twins who have been diagnosed with Autism has taken all of my time, energy and direction since the end of the Anthrax reunion cycle. The decision to use my God given gift of music to bring awareness globally to this disease is my main mission now.
Since I started playing my guitar once again during the Anthrax reunion cycle I gained back the love once lost for my instrument. Back in the early part of creating the sound of Anthrax I created riffs for me, and me only, it just so happened many of our fans seemed to fall in love with the same aggression and originality that this music produced. It is the same with DeuxMonkey. This is how the creation process is in the studio for the new DeuxMonkey songs. Pounding Thrash metal one song at a time.
Gathering some of the best metal musicians available to infuse technical and creative expertise unforeseen I found my friend, Peter Baltes, a multi-platinum recording artist from the infamous German metal band Accept to play bass guitar. We collided at a European festival where we were both playing. Accept was a band that laid a foundation for the creation of some the first ever Thrash Metal riffs that I created. I used to blast "Fast as a Shark" over and over on my way to Anthrax rehearsals for "Fistful of Metal". I always said that if I could just speed that riff up and a drummer could play that fast it would be sick! I feel honored to have a bassist onboard of this caliber, as well as my friendship that goes so deep with Peter. Hailing from guitar shredder extraordinaire Yngwie Malmsteen's band is Kiss fanatic sick boy Patrick Johansson on Drums. A veteran who has had the honor to pound skins for others like Wasp, as well as countless death metal recordings requiring that double bass drum sonic perfection that DeuxMonkey requires. Patrick and I have become one at pre-production. His feet can mimic my most intricate picking without fail. It must be his Swedish heritage and the Kiss room in his house that houses a million Kiss pieces of memorabilia that channels his sickness. On vocals the search was on for a voice and a lifestyle that breathes, eats and sleeps "Metal". No freakin' impostors of Metal allowed. Enter Wade Black formerly of Crimson Glory and Seven Witches. A man with a set of lungs that has gained him a considerable reputation amongst his peers. I think he can blow out monitors of any size. It's taken forever to find that perfect Metal voice. Finally!
So my new Thrash Metal band on steroids exists!
Reinventing a new me is a killer feeling. I miss my fans and the stage so much it is unmeasurable at this point. You know 15 years on buses and planes touring the world and delivering the goods (as Halford would say) fried me. I just lost the love of playing my guitar and touring. I decided to clear my head by stopping the music and starting the Swiss schooling to become a Master Watchmaker of insane wrist watches that cost insane amounts of money. From the loud crunches of blazing guitar amps to the silence of an extremely complicated and expensive Swiss watch. I needed that silence and challenges of the most extreme O.C.D. kind. I guess it worked, I'm back creating sick fast Thrash riffs for all now.
DeuxMonkey is the start of many projects I plan to enter into. It's getting my feet wet, it's reconnecting with my fans and friends, whom I miss so much. I hope you all enjoy the pounding metal, the devastating riffs, the blistering leads and lyrical content that means so very much to all of us in this band.
Oh yeah, lets not forget my most recent near death heart failure. I think God has a couple of things for me to do if he kept me around.
The sounds of DeuxMonkey will surely open the gates and make many fans very happy. The music I've been writing is simply an extension of "Among The Living" with new guitar sounds I've had in my head for years. If you like that period of my music writing you will certainly have tons of insane head banging at the upcoming live shows. I just needed to find my Metal brothers to make it happen. It took a while and lots of work. I hope everyone will enjoy hearing the new music.
