Bane of Winterstorm was conceived in July of 2009 as an unrelenting force in a new wave of dark symphonic power metal fusing mysticism, beauty and crushing heaviness with a powerful and progressive nature, while borrowing from many other styles allows aggression and romanticism to flow throughout their unique style.
 
Having already set itself apart from other Australian metal acts by offering something that until now has been otherwise absent from Australia, the Melbourne Quintet aim to take the next step with the release of their ominous debut album ‘The War of Shadows I: The Last Sons of Perylin’. With its roots deep in European power metal and Tolkien-esque storytelling, the band delves deep into melodic thrash and death metal to allow the sound to breathe a certain darkness over the usually uplifting genre. A foreboding terror looms over soaring melodies, while epic choirs chant over blast beats and crushing riffs creating a balance of graceful and menacing tones. The band is joined by some of the most powerful singers in the world including vocalists of Dragonland, Anarion, LORD, Damnation’s Day, Divine Ascension, Desecrator, Orpheus Omega and Vanishing Point to accurately portray the lore of ‘The War of Shadows’ and take symphonic metal to new menacing heights.
 
Anthony J. Finch
As the mastermind of Bane of Winterstorm, Anthony J. Finch has forged his way as a multi-instrumentalist to the leader of a band with its hands firmly poised on the throat of Australian metal. His fervent musical passion led him to embrace a mixture of styles and genres, seemingly calling him to mix the musical textures of power metal with classical and modern compositions. Cementing his place not only as a talented guitarist and vocalist, but as an ambitious and methodical composer having painted the moving landscapes of ‘The War of Shadows’ and album sure to bring the world to its knees.

Riccardo Mecchi
Singer Riccardo Mecchi joined Bane of Winterstorm in 2012 after enjoying international success with his band Anarion. After establishing the acclaimed Melodic Thrash outfit in 1999, Anarion became an undeniable force with their second album ’Unbroken’, touring Australia and Japan in support of their sophomore album. In 2009 they released ‘Beneath it All’ an irrefutable melodic thrash masterpiece which showcases the talent of Riccardo as both a singer and guitarist. With a soaring, undeniably graceful voice and powerful stage presence, Riccardo has elevated Bane of Winterstorm to an international level.

Chris Themelco
Before joining Bane of Winterstorm in 2012, Chris Themelco was the engineer at Monolith Studios who helped forge ‘The War of Shadows I: The Last Sons of Perylin’ and turn it into a relentless onslaught of dark symphonic metal as well as being the vocalist and guitarist in one of Australia’s most respected Melodic Death outfits Orpheus Omega, having reached international acclaim with both ‘Bleed the Way’ and ‘Resillution’ and the soon to be released ‘The War of Shadows I: The Last Sons of Perylin’

Tristan Peterson
Tristan Peterson’s role in Bane of Winterstorm began years before the band came to exist. Playing bass in various projects with guitarist Anthony J. Finch would lead the two to collaborate throughout the years, before forming Bane of Winterstorm in July of 2009. Tristan would soon begin work on a concept story that eventually became ‘The War of Shadows’ and is here that his presence is felt most, having penned the novel that accompanies the album and contributing heavily to the lore of Bane of Winterstorm.

Alberto Di Biase
Alberto joined Bane of Winterstorm having initiated his musical voyage in 1996, eventually playing in extreme metal bands Accursed and Order of Orias and touring Australia before taking a brief intermission from drumming. In 2012 he was beckoned to join Bane of Winterstorm after the band had spent two years without a drummer. Alberto’s passion has invigorated the band and helped Bane of Winterstorm return once again to the stage.
