I grew up in a music studio.  My mother was a private Classical violin teacher and taught lessons in our home.    There was never a moment where I wasn't listening to the music of her students or vinyl records of classical, ancient/medieval, world, and many other types of music on our old turntable.   
I was presented with and started playing my first violin at age one and a half.  It was a 1/32 size, which is the smallest practical size of violin available.   Apparently, by all accounts, I took to violin playing like a "duck to water", although for the first year I would not allow anyone to help me.  Still, as I was turning two years of age, I had already figured out how to play many of the songs and pieces my mom's students played.  
I was a child who actually enjoyed practicing---often 5 or 6 hours daily.   In time I went on to win several competitions, played solos in front of several orchestras and gave many performances.   Perhaps my proudest moment came when I auditioned for and  was accepted as a member of  Disney's Young Musician's symphony Orchestra (DYMSO) which held auditions in the USA, Canada, and the U.K.   With that orchestra, I performed at the Hollywood Bowl and was able to meet and perform with several celebrated musicians and actors (Mark o'Connor, Michael Bolton, Elmer Bernstein, Tom Hulce, and many others)  It was a lovely, rewarding experience, and many of the other talented children in that orchestra have gone on to become world famous competition winners, have been awarded classical recording contracts, or have performed on movie soundtracks.
