Jialin Yao was born in Shanxi, China in 1999. He began to play the piano at the age of 4. When he was 8, he started to learn from Professor Hong Fu, a great pianist from the Piano Department of China Conservatory of Music. In 2011, Jialin Yao was admitted to the Attached Middle School of China Conservatory of Music. In the course of study, he won the “Major Courses Scholarship” and “Excellent Student Scholarship”, and was rewarded the title of “Outstanding Graduate”. In 2017, with the highest score among all the students, he was enrolled by the Piano Department of China Conservatory of Music.
Jialin Yao has won prizes in many piano competitions, including the KAWAI Asian Piano Competition, YAMAHA Scholarship Competition, Steinway Piano Competition, Seiler & Samic Piano Competition and China Young Golden Bell Award Competition. He is also the 1st prize winner (category A) of the 2016 Santa Cecilia International Piano Competition.
During his piano study, Jialin Yao had opportunities to receive professional guidance from many distinguished pianists including Dmitri Alexeev, Boris Slutsky, John Perry, Francesco Mirabella, Carles Lama, Craig Sheppard, Roberto Domingos, Gerardo Teissonnière, Antonio Pompa-Baldi, Yoheved Kaplinsky, Jasmin Arakawa, Danwen Wei, Hua Chang, Yundi Li and Lang Lang. All of the pianists spoke highly of him.
Jialin Yao has participated in many large-scale concerts. In May 2012, he played in Outstanding Student Concert of the Attached Middle School of China Conservatory of Music at Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing. In August 2012, he went to Germany with Professor Fu Hong for a summer camp and held several concerts in Mannheim, Karlsruhe and Rothenburg. In May 2015, he attended the National Piano Teaching Seminar, and also held a successful solo concert in the Attached Middle School of China Conservatory of Music. He established and presented the largest Orchestra in the history of the high school, and played the Tchaikovsky First Piano Concerto for the first time in the school, which attracted a large audience and received high praise. In June 2016, he held a solo concert at the Central University for Nationalities. Subsequently in December 2016 he attended the 15th Anniversary Concert of Attached Middle School of China Conservatory of Music. In 2014-2016, as the deputy chairman of the school club named “Training Day”, he rehearsed and performed successfully such musicals as Les Miserables and Notre Dame de Paris. In 2017, he was invited to give a piano recital in Porto, Portugal, which turned out to be a great success and won tremendous acclaim.
