Connor Desai is a Seattle-based singer/songwriter/guitarist whose sophomore album Use Your Hands was independently released on June 8, 2010.  This album has yet to receive anything but the highest praise; national news media outlet ChannelOne featured the album and debuted the first video on its website, gushing "she's the perfect new addition to our playlists, and yours."  The Jazz Music Examiner said, "Desai manages to break down jazz into its more pleasing parts…the experimentation, the intelligence, the full-bodied pairings, the cute as hopscotch melodies…in a winning presentationof art, style and verve."  Others like Seattle Show Gal tapped into the music's timeless appeal by noting that Use Your Hands is "reminiscent of the bygone era of smoke-filled jazz clubs, Desai is that warm voice that can easily lead you away from your troubles and set you in a trance."  Since it's release, Connor has been busy touring the Northwest, providing interviews for radio, local and national press venues, and writing songs for her next album. From her first public performance at the age of three, Connor Desai has pursued every opportunity to emulate her early influences; Victoria Williams, Steely Dan, and Kansas, among the usual suspects, and to discover her own voice while creating honest and soulful American folk music.  Her first release, an eponymous EP, met with instant critical acclaim and beguiled the traditional jazz circuit.  Smother Magazine said “Connor Desai portrays a sound that’s somewhere lost between pop, indie folk, and vocal jazz.  Sort of like if Norah Jones had never been discovered and was forced to record in her Brooklyn apartment”; and Reviewer Magazine called it “(A)n impressive debut.  Seattle's Desai makes dreamily soulful jazz/pop, reminiscent of Norah Jones or Feist.” Sony took notice of the song “Will You Love” and licensed it for use on their mp3 players and phones.  Through this song, Connor has garnered a far-reaching fan base, as the song landed in the hands of music-loving citizens from Thailand to Mexico, Italy to India, and many places in between.  The widespread popularity of "Will You Love" has also secured a spot in the top 20 download charts for iTunes in Mexico, placing her well above the likes of Katy Perry and Beyonce.  The first track off this EP, "Trouble Is" was placed by Canadian flimmakers from Lazy Susan Productions (in association with the Alberta Foundation for the Arts) in their film entitled "Tying the Not."  Connor was also featured in, and provided original music for the documentary film “Daughterhood,” which was directed by Evan Briggs and appeared in various film festivals across the US.In addition to her own ventures, Connor can be found among the credits as a vocal contributor on several of Seattle's favorite indie releases, including Mr. Twit's "International Rock and Roll,"  Leanne Wilkins’ "Waterwheel,” and Bruce Elzinga’s "New Day."   Connor’s latest album Use Your Hands is the compelling result of her collaboration with Spokane-based producer, Chris White, and former band (Secret Stairs) members; bassist Alex Trzyna and drummer Mike O'Doherty.  Blending her irresistibly sultry purr and uncluttered guitar stylings with Alex and Mike’s innovative rhythms, Connor's sound floats between jazz, folk, pop and indie slowcore without breaking stride. “Ruby,” the first music video from Use Your Hands, is an upbeat, quirky journey in which Connor’s unmistakeable voice naturally smiles though.  The album includes eight other tracks, including the jazz/funk influenced "Say It Again," which is the first official single, as well as a sultry and honest cover of The Grateful Dead’s “Friend of the Devil.”  “I don’t usually do covers but I always appreciate them.  I think covers provide a marker by which to gauge a musician's unique voice, and as a lesser-known artist it was important for me to do one,” says Connor.  "Plus I have a lingering sentimentality for the Dead, and this version came out so easily." Besides writing, recording, and co-producing her latest effort, Connor loves the art of live performance and has appeared at the infamous Hotel Café in Los Angeles, and at Music Millenium Records in Portland for MusicFest NW.  She's also a regular at several Seattle landmarks including The Tractor Tavern, Nectar Lounge, Lucid Jazz Club, and two consecutive years at Seattle's ParkTunes Festival. Regarding her latest release, Connor divulges; "There's a lot going on behind the songs of this album, and to me it feels representative of the many moods that were present during the time period in which they were written.  In the three years between the completion of Use Your Hands and the EP's debut, I was raising a daughter and gave birth to twins, formed then dismantled a band, and eventually got hooked into the Spokane music scene via Chris White and House of Sound.  Because of that spread, I think people will find more variety of sound on this album than expected - it's admi
