Once again we have a talent that nearly misses the radar and goes unheralded. And as always Im appalled that in this age of information super highways that I can
spend countless hours searching and still come up empty-handed.
The gorgeous Bonnie Boyer (pictured) is NOT dead! The Boyer that is passed away was a member of Princes band and her actual name was BONI (Bonita) Boyer. I
have been able to establish that fact.
Last known sightings of our Bonnie has her living and still performing (as of 1998) in the Pennsylvania area. Bonnie had a breakthrough disco hit in 1979 with "Got
To Give In To Love." The album "Give In To Love" was recorded in Philadelphia which leads us to believe that she is a Penn State gal. The album was produced by
Nate Chacker but the key disco cuts "Got To Give In To Love" and "Never, Never" were produced, arranged and played by John Davis and Giuliano Salerni.
The album boasts the aforementioned disco tracks and a wide range of material from ballads to rockers and even an oldie. All designed to showcase Bonnies range
and talents. Key tracks are: "Sister Nasty," "I Believe In You," "Ill Be The Music" and "Having A Party."
The album also features a host of incredible talents. Besides Davis, (a disco icon), singers Vaneese Thomas, Carolyn Mitchell and Brenda Hill join in on the fun as
does Don Renaldo and His Strings (another disco treasure). With the success of this Columbia Records release it amazes me that Boyer didnt have another album or
hit. Maybe it was politics, Bonnies own decision, or the changing musical landscape of 1979-1980? Guess well never know....and we may never know anymore about
Bonnie than the small facts above. Still she has her place here in The DiscoMuseum with our adoration and thanks!
