While Beaner’s first release on DoC was conceptually focused around an imaginary dark jungle villa, his new release is about 2 very real personalities. Steve Millers Beach leads the listener to image hanging out with dude-rock legend, Steve Miller, on his private beach. S.M.B. has a relaxed, low-slung techno vibe to it. Expect very deep effects and expressively designed synths which reminisce one of an electric guitar. Add morphing delayed percussive elements and warm analog swells and you have found a techno song as individualized as a snowflake. M.o.A.N.C.T.S., on the other hand, captures the spirit of Mosima “Tokyo” Sexwale who was a South African anti- apartheid activist. M.o.A.N.C.T.S. presents a very odd and scary “things that go bump in the night” feeling which Beaner is quickly becoming know for. This time around though, Pablo has brought more pumping and forward percussion that provides a very rich contrast to the freaky swells and atmospheric sound effects. M.o.A.N.C.T.S. is a very unique journey into a place that may not be appropriate for all dancefloors. Pablo Roman- Alcalá also has forth-coming releases this fall as part of his “War vs Sleep” collaboration (w\u002F Brian D. Hock aka C.L.A.W.S.) on both Rekids and Bar 25 Records.
