he Butcher of Common Sense - a book. a vinyl 10, a cd, a show, an exhibition. A remarkable and visceral journey through half worlds and half truths - this is an album that kicks, bites, carresses and hits deep. Created in a vast DDR radio studio and developed under self imposed limitations and rules of spontaneity, it is a daring, raw, fragile and bold expression that blends experimentation, art, noise, melody, kosmische attitude and twisted light and shade, producing aural nightmares (Isotope) otherworldliness (Clump, U-bahn, Spill The Sea) and at times even almost radio friendly songs (Butcher of Common Sense) For this project, The Neutrinos travelled to Berlin to develop an experimental project in art and music, developed over a three-year period carried out by 9 artists beginning with a 10-day intensive in Berlin in a defunct DDR radio station, Funkhaus Nalepestrassse. The idea was to become immersed into the surroundings and create spontaneously and intuitively a range of audio and visual art within the space. “Part of the idea was that this old broadcasting studio would enable a sort psycho-archaeology; so we weren’t so much building things as uncovering them - feeding off the space and the city. We wanted to take that process, distill it and then make it into something whereby we could record it, musically, verbally and visually” Karen Reilly Singer Produced by Jonny Cole and The Neutrinos Engineered by Jonny Cole, Jon Baker, Jerry Melchers, Owen Morgan Mixed by Jonny Cole, Jon Baker, Mark Howe Mastered by Jonny Cole at The Mill The Neutrinos are: Karen Reilly vocals, electronics Mark Howe guitar, vocals, electronics Jon Baker, bass, vocals, electronics Sal Pittman - Art Direction Pip Cotterill drums Leo Thornely guitar Cath Evans drums The Butchers: Jon Baker Jonny Cole Roz Coleman Pip Cotterill Mark Howe Sal Pittman Karen Reilly Leo Thornely Dan Tombs
