March music is a barometer of progress in society. It reflects the rhythm of tramping feet marching to war and the steady pulse of peacetime – the ever-onward stride of arts, science and industry. In ‘March Around The World,’ the National Symphonic Band conveys this parade of progress, both through rousing military music and joyous national themes from the four corners of the Earth. Starting with a tribute to the 18th President of the United States, General Grant, the band offers a salvo of martial salutes all written by famed bandmaster, Karl L. King. There is the never-failing courage, bravado and gallant effort of Chateau Thierry, honoring the World War I battle and the bulldog tenacity and dashing defiance of World War II’s Pursuit Squadron.
