Engine Alley lends a wonderfully gentle quality to the traditional sound of Britpop (which was dominated by glammier rock as of 1993) ? the band's vocal presence and overall sense of drama might prompt comparisons to Gene or Suede, but their sweet melodies, swelling strings, and general loveliness have more in common with the highly-composed and highly non-rock sound of the Trashcan Sinatras' debut, Cake.
