The album was produced by SNK Sound TeamThe KOF '99 game marks the departure of the Orochi saga and the beginning of the NESTS saga. The series goes from a spiritual, mythological storyline to a mechanical, biotechnological chapter and the music changes accordingly. The staple teams keep their characteristic themes, but many of the songs focus on the new technological theme, such as the first of the KD series, KD-0079; a remix of ESAKA?, named ESAKA ~Acid Mix~; and Krizalid's theme songs. The album also marks the debut of Tears, one of Kyo Kusanagi's trademark theme songs.
