Phillippe Cohen Solal clearly enjoys pushing boundaries, having already shown the dance music universe just how flexible a tango rhythm can be on Gotan Project's 2001 release La Revancha Del Tango. Inspiracion-Espiracion doesn't do anything new, exactly, but this sprawling mix of new tracks, remixes, guest DJs, Astor Piazzolla, and poetry readings doesn't lack for audaciousness. With a soulful mixer like Solal at the wheel, it's a pretty smooth ride; a reinterpretation of Chet Baker's Round About Midnight segues into the beat-driven Confianzas like a darkening sky giving way to moonlight. Downtempo master Peter Kruder shows up as well, to weave a little football commentary into his remix of Triptico, while Solal returns the favor (but without the football) on The Man (from Kruder's Peace Orchestra release).
