AboutDichotomies & DreamlandSoundpool’s second full length album “Dichotomies & Dreamland” is in many ways the classic psychedelic album in a post electronica age. Conceptually the album can be broken into two parts… the conscious and subconscious. The conscious world we all experience is a world of inter-relating opposites… up\u002Fdown, left\u002Fright, black\u002Fwhite, good\u002Fbad etc. The things that manifest themselves into the reality of our conscious world do of course have their origins in our subconscious. This album is a manifestation of the subconscious into the conscious. Stylistically the album follows a thread that perhaps starts in the mid-sixties when certain pop artists of the day started taking hallucinogens and making records that were a bit more eclectic, cerebral and daring… pushing the boundaries of what popular music could sound like. “Dichotomies and Dreamland” was made in the spirit of that sort of artistic attitude but it’s not overly self indulgent nor deliberately or even necessarily retro per se… it is in fact quite modern in an indie sort of way. Elements of Shoegaze, Electronica, Psychedelic, Dream Pop, Space Rock etc. are all prevalent.
