Formed in 1966, the Art Ensemble of Chicago continues to be one of the most influential groups on jazz’s progressive wing. Its motto – “Great Black Music, Ancient to the Future!” – is also its far-reaching programme. Roscoe Mitchell , Famoudou Don Moye and Malachi Favors Maghostus selected Art Ensemble compositions for this anthology – “We have enjoyed many great musical experiences with ECM” – adding also related material by Mitchell’s prize-winning Note Factory band and by the late, great Lester Bowie.
