Dan Melchior's earliest output rather unfairly hand-cuffed him to his one-time collaborator Billy Childish. In reality, the British ex-pat (now residing in North Carolina after a lengthy go of it in New York City) long ago abandoned the more parochial blues and R&B tendencies of the Medway godfather. Melchior has been moving in a more aggressively experimental direction since the late ‘00s, his releases reflecting a new sense of creative urgency and a deeper leap down the sonic rabbit hole. 2011's Assemblage Blues finds Melchior in full solo mode (sans Broke Revue or Das Menace) and quite appropriately having a go of it with Siltbreeze, who have over the years offered a comfortable home to both eccentric songwriters and noisemongers alike.
