The effect of certain passages within Azure Vista might be equivalent to staring directly at the early morning sun for far too long. Blinding, in this case, is not a flattering adjective. The most effective moments tend to be the most subdued: the slowly swelling Azure Vista, capped with light angelic sighs, as well as the feathery twinkle-drone Tourmaline are both more powerful and less laborious than the overdramatic sequences from the other tracks. Rhythm is more secondary than ever, allowing the guitars to shoot up, unrestrained, to the skies. Hopefully someone will reintroduce Munk to early Durutti Column. Restraint good, excess bad.
