Ghostly goings on from gothic psych queen Zola Jesus and kindredspirit LA Vampires (the current guise of Amanda Brown fromPocahaunted), who collaborate across this cracking new minialbum. 'Bone Is Bloodstone' rumbles into motion with those familiarlysmudged out, indecipherable vocals and evaporating drum machines butthere's a heavy bass groove and some ghoulish melodic developments setto balance out any of the more noxiously no-fi elements . In a morereflective mood, 'In The Desert' momentarily extinguishes the low endand stirs up a shimmering expanse of freetime wah-wah chords anddroning voices. An altogether funkier prospect, 'Searching' hints atPocahaunted's latter-day output, firing up a junkyard dub rhythm, andthis idea gets stretched out to booming sub-funk proportions in timefor closer 'No No No', which you can just about discern as coveringthe Dawn Penn hit 'You Don't Love Me'.
