'A Tower of Silence' is Anubis' 2nd album, released after the unexpected success of the debut 230503.A group of young boys break into an abandoned hospital somewhere in England. This hospital used to be a union workhouse. They hold a seance in one of the old wards that summons the shade of an 8-year old girl who died 200 years previously from neglect. She tells her story of how her mother died during childbirth, her father; crippled with grief, enters the workhouse system whilst she was still a toddler and she was separated from him. She tells of the endemic cruelty of the workhouse itself, it's staff, and the illness that killed her. Moreover, she laments the fact that although she was very pious, she has never met God and has been effectively abandoned for a second time by another father, that she believed would save her forever from the pain and pitiful existence she had on Earth.'A Tower of Silence' was a stinging critique of organised religion, of the churches own anachronistic policy on infant baptism, original sin and the idea that an all-knowing, all-loving father could let an innocent child live and die in such a tragic and sadistic way.'A Tower of Silence' was a breakthrough album for the band in 2011, outselling 230503 by a huge amount, earning the band a loyal following throughout Europe and as of March 2017, 6 years after it's release, it's still charting as the 9th best neo-progressive rock album of all time on the Progarchives chart.
