Four years after the release of the great “Demonoir” and 1349 return with a deadly vengeance. On the 29th of September “Massive Cauldron of Chaos” is set to be released through Indie Recordings worldwide, except for North America, where Season of Mist will be handling the album on September 30. Says 1349: We entered the studio with an idea of putting everything that 1349 has ever been about into a cauldron, stir it well, and pour in some fresh ingredients - as well as some strange old ones - and come up with our most potent elixir ever. And we brought the spirit to match the ambitious attempt. Boil, boil, toil and trouble... Behold! We have made the most delightfully intoxicating and dangerous potion you can dream of. FEEL THE FIRE! And Hail Hell. “It’s more direct and more profound than anything we’ve done before,” says drummer Kjetil-Vidar Frost Haraldstad (Satyricon) of the new album. The darkness is even more menacing and there are deeper depths. On the other hand, it’s kicking a lot more, because it’s more alive – at least that’s how I experience it.” Writes Metal Hammer: ‘Black metal’s centre of gravity has been under siege in the four years since 1349 released the last album, Demonoir. Norway’s hold on the movement’s epicentre has slipped as various pioneers from Sweden, Finland and elsewhere have risen in prominence, US college kids in checked shirts have run away with their own wistful take and the rise of occult death metal has siphoned off much of its dark and baleful atmosphere. But rather than rely on old glories, their latest missive offers a hyper-modern, clinical yet still utterly visceral take whose relentless and commanding onslaught is guaranteed to have your eyes rolling around inside your head.’
